Reina Ono
Reina is an animator and illustrator, raised in a traditional Japanese household in Andover, MA. Her work focuses on fragility, loss, and self-awareness. She incorporate soft colors and delicate characters to deliver her message. Reina interprets the natural world when she does backgrounds. The use of space is also an important part of her work. Comics are another area of interest.
Reina is a senior Animation student at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. In her work, she focuses on combining physical and emotional experiences as in “ Paralysis”, a short about sleep disturbances. Additionally, she develops cool color backgrounds for fantasy films, incorporating texture, shapes, and the human figure. Reina’s animation is based on deeply personal experiences with waking and dream states, primarily based on fear. She is focusing her work this year on integrating these themes with more positive imagery: hope, freedom, and well being. Her “Daydream”, “Reverie” and “A Sudden Friendship” shorts are examples of this direction. Her goals for her senior year include developing her portfolio in character design, film, observational studies, sound design, and GIF’s.
